Man who gave Doug Martin 'Muscle Hamster' nickname says it's forever
Sometimes, when you get a nickname, there's just no getting rid of it. Usually, though, a nickname that sticks like that is a pretty good one, and one that you can be proud of. Unfortunately for Doug Martin, he's made it well known that he's not a fan of the "Muscle Hamster" nickname that he received at Boise State.
Well, even through his attempts to find a new nickname, Jarrell Root, a former defensive end at Boise State, and the man who gave Martin the name, says it's not going anywhere. As Andrew Astleford of ESPN reports, this nickname may be a lifer.
"I don't think it's ever going to leave him," Root told ESPN.
"I don't think you can ever take back something like that," Root said. "Imagine if 'The Fridge' didn't like being called 'The Fridge.' It doesn't matter. He's still going to be called 'The Fridge,' because no matter how you try to do it, if you have an interesting, interesting name, it's too rare. The damage is already done."
When you think about it, it truly is hard to get the name "Muscle Hamster" out of your head. To make things even worse for Martin, it's probably twice as hard to begin using a new nickname after so many years.
Here's to hoping Martin can catch a break though and get the new nickname of "Dougernaut" to pick up some steam.
