Lions' Matthew Stafford becomes NFL's fastest to 25,000 passing yards

On Sunday against the St. Louis Rams, Detroit Lions quarterback Matthew Stafford became the fastest player in NFL history to reach 25,000 passing yards. It took him 90 games to reach the career milestone, breaking Hall of Fame quarterback Dan Marino's previous record by two games.

Stafford began Sunday's game with a 39-50 record as a starter since entering the league as the first overall draft pick in 2009, but he has always been a productive passer. His breakout season came in 2011, when he threw for a career-high 5,038 passing yards. Stafford's top target, wide receiver Calvin Johnson, set an NFL record with 1,964 receiving yards that season.

Stafford has kept right on piling up statistics -- if not wins -- since then, as he has thrown for at least 4,200 yards in each of the past three seasons. He is on pace to top that total once again in 2015.
