Lions GM heaps praise on TE Eric Ebron

Detroit Lions tight end Eric Ebron struggled to make an impact during his rookie season. Although he was the 10th-overall pick in last year's draft, you wouldn't know it just be looking at his statistics. In 2014, he had only 25 catches for 248 yards and a touchdown.

But this season might be a little different. Lions general manager Martin Mayhew believes Ebron could be on the verge of a breakout, according to Kyle Meinke of MLive.com.

"I see a lot more disciplined, professional, motivated and realistic guy than what I saw last year," Mayhew said, via MLive.com. "He knows what's at stake. He knows what he has to do to be a great pro. And I see him doing everything that he has to do to be a great pro.

"He has been working his butt off to be better than what he was last year."

Ebron, 22, certainly has the athleticism to make a difference as a pass-catcher. He is 6-foot-4 and 250 pounds, yet he can run a 4.6-second 40-yard dash. Now that he's taking a more professional approach to his preparation, that ability may actually play out in the form of production.

"The whole thing about the rookie wall, and that he wasn't going to hit it, some of those kind of comments were unrealistic," Mayhew said, per MLive.com. "Now he has a serious focus and is a serious pro. He's come a long way in terms of those kinds of things."

There will be a lot of eyes on Ebron this season, as he tries to avoid the dreaded draft-bust label.
