Jets P Ryan Quigley earns AFC award for day of double duty
It's not often that a punter earns an award for being the best special teamer of the week, but Ryan Quigley of the Jets was more than just a punter on Sunday.
Nick Folk injured his quad early in the game and was unable to kick, leaving Quigley to become both the place kicker and the punter. He knocked through all four extra point attempts (one of which went off the upright) and downed a career-high five punts inside the 20-yard line.
His performance was so impressive that it earned him AFC Special Teams Player of the Week honors.
Fortunately (or maybe not), Quigley won't be asked to kick field goals again as the Jets signed Randy Bullock on Tuesday to replace the injured Folk. He'll go back to being a full-time punter in New York this week.
Quigley hasn't had the best season for the Jets with regards to booming kicks, but he's consistently downed punts inside the 20. He's eighth in the NFL with 15 such kicks, helping the Jets win the battle of field position.
