Jerry Jones won't rule out Cowboys drafting QB at No. 4 overall

Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones got a glimpse of what life after Tony Romo might look like this season, and it wasn't pretty.
Jones admitted earlier this season that he needs to put the Cowboys in a better position to succeed at quarterback, if Romo goes down again, and he is expected to make good on that promise this offseason.
In an interview on 105.3 The Fan on Tuesday, Jones suggested that he would consider using the Cowboys' first-round 2016 NFL Draft pick, at No. 4 overall, on a quarterback.

It's not common for a team with an established franchise quarterback to use a first round pick on a quarterback, but it's not unprecedented. The Green Bay Packers selected Aaron Rodgers in the first round of the 2005 NFL Draft when they already had franchise quarterback Brett Favre on the roster.
If the Cowboys choose to follow in those footsteps, they will likely target University of California quarterback Jared Goff when they select at No. 4 overall in the first round. Goff is the current consensus top quarterback, and he has the size and physical tools to evolve into a franchise quarterback.
With the Tennessee Titans, Cleveland Browns and San Diego Chargers ahead of the Cowboys. there is a decent chance that Goff will drop to No. 4. The Titans and Chargers have their franchise guys and the Browns selected a quarterback in the first round of the 2014 NFL Draft. If the Browns decide to give up on that first rounder -- Johnny Manziel -- or another team tries to jump the Cowboys -- they could deem one of several other potential first round quarterback prospects worthy of the No. 4 overall pick.
