Jerry Jones updates timetable for Dez Bryant's return

Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones on Tuesday morning provided an update regarding when the team expects Dez Bryant to be fully recovered from his surgery Monday to repair a broken fifth metatarsal in his right foot, and he appears inclined to believe the superstar wide receiver may miss less time than some reports have predicted.
“It takes a bone six weeks to fully recover,” Jones said on 105.3 The Fan’s “New School” radio program, as transcribed by The Dallas Morning News. “We’ve had players with foot injuries that did not wait until the six weeks period of time before they were functional and before they were able to play.
“He’ll be able to be conditioning, things of that nature, as early as two to three weeks into his rehab. The facts are it’s just that, no one knows. It has to do with the individual. The repair went well, so Dez is of course Superman when it comes to being physical, but on the other hand, we want it to repair well.”
Cowboys head coach Jason Garrett discussed a timetable of between four and six weeks concerning when Bryant would be fully healed and able to rejoin the team. Other reports, however, have been far less optimistic, with some suggesting the wideout could miss upwards of 12 weeks due to the injury, surgery and subsequent rehab and recovery.
Bryant personally took to Twitter shortly after the procedure to say the “surgery went well” and that Cowboys fans should not “listen to all the craziness” related to the lengthier estimates being made about the timing of his presumptive return.
While the Cowboys reportedly are looking for ways to increase depth at the wide receiver position due to Bryant’s absence, Jones couldn’t help but express regret over how things played out in Week 1.
“I’m just disappointed,” he said. “But the thing is, I guess I’ve been in football since I was five-years-old, so I’ve always known that you never get the hand to play with that you got on paper and you’re always having to make adjustments. That’s what this is.”
