Jerry Jones: Collins immediately saw the opportunity to be a part of something special for 10 years

Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones is not just building a strong offensive line for the next few years to come, he's hoping to build a line that will last the test of time. And he's thinking that time span could be up to 10 years.

Jones' claim seems ludicrous on the surface, but he might be on to something. Four of the five players in this group are all 24 years of age or younger. Right guard Zack Martin, left tackle Tyron Smith and center Travis Frederick are all 24. Their newest signing, first-round talent La'el Collins is only 21 years of age.

It's this opportunity that Jones claims drove Collins toward making the decision to sign with the Cowboys.

“The idea that they could play together for maybe as long as 10 years, and be a part of something that — they wouldn’t even have to grunt, they’d know what the other one was doing — and get that good with each other and have that much talent, really could be something special as far as offensive lines are concerned in the NFL,” said Jones in an interview with Shan & RJ on 105.3 The Fan.

“That opportunity was very apparent to him. He saw it immediately.”

In his introductory press conference with the team, Collins confirmed his confidence in the situation by saying saying that this unit “will be the greatest offensive line in NFL history."

Collins will get a chance to prove himself right away. One day after signing his three-year deal with the Cowboys, he will report to the rookie minicamp on Friday.
