Jaguars G Joeckel out for season after major knee surgery

Updated Mar. 4, 2020 2:10 p.m. ET

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (AP) Jacksonville Jaguars guard Luke Joeckel will miss the rest of the season after having major knee surgery.

The team said Friday that Joeckel had surgery Thursday to repair a torn anterior cruciate ligament, a torn medial collateral ligament and a torn lateral meniscus - significant damage that could take up to a year to fully heal.

Joeckel was the second overall pick in the 2013 NFL draft who moved from tackle to guard this season. He injured his left knee against Indianapolis in London on Sunday when teammate A.J. Cann slammed into the side of his leg.

The Jaguars (1-3) placed Joeckel on injured reserve this week. Without him, Patrick Omameh, Chris Reed or Tyler Shatley is expected to start at left guard next week at Chicago.
