Is Mike Glennon the long-term answer in Tampa Bay?
Lovie Smith has been on the job in Tampa Bay for a little over two months. While he’s spent that time evaluating his roster, he’s still uncertain if quarterback Mike Glennon is the long-term guy.
"To say right now that Mike is the answer and he's our quarterback of the future and we're going to build around him and give him a 20-year contract, we’re not there,” Smith told The Tampa Tribune. "I like him as one of our quarterbacks right now, but we're going to have at least four in camp and at least one (veteran) will be in the mix. And then you just let it all play out."
When Smith was introduced as the team’s new head coach, he spoke highly of Glennon.
The 6-foot-6 quarterback played in 13 games as a rookie and made some major strides. Glennon’s strong arm and work ethic won’t automatically win him the job. Smith has now noted that the team will bring in a veteran to compete and could use the No. 7 overall pick in May’s NFL Draft on a quarterback.
