If Dolphins want to re-sign Lamar Miller, he needs more carries
The Miami Dolphins have one of the worst rushing offense in the league, ranking 20th in yards per game on the ground. Surprisingly, though, they're third in yards per attempt (4.8). A big reason for that is the effectiveness of Lamar Miller despite his lack of carries. He boasts the league's sixth-best yards per carry average (5.1) and is 231 yards from topping 1,000 for the second consecutive season.
Miller will be a free agent in the offseason, and in order for the Dolphins to re-sign him, he needs to get the ball more. According to Andrew Abramson of the Palm Beach Post, Miller said the number of carries he gets will factor into his free agency decision.
“It’ll be a part of my decision, yes, just trying to see how I would be used and what type offense, what type of system that I would be playing in,” he said. "When I'm feeling it, I feel I should get more opportunities. But it just depends on the situation if we're losing or if we're up.
"I was feeling it pretty good Monday night. I really don’t question the play calling. I just go out there and try to make plays for this team and this organization. I really don’t think about it that much."
Miller said he wants to finish his career in Miami, especially because he grew up in South Florida and played at the University of Miami. But when it comes time for him to pick a team in free agency, money could play a factor -- as it typically does.
He'll likely be one of the biggest targets for running back-needy teams in free agency given his talent and low wear-and-tear in the league.
