Harbaugh tries to break up tussle

Published Oct. 20, 2013 1:00 a.m. ET

Jim Harbaugh isn't going to be intimidated.

The 49ers were in Tennessee to take on the Titans on Sunday, and the San Francisco head coach wound up having a front-row seat to a sideline fracas that broke out in the second half. Harbaugh, in case you didn't know, is no normal head coach.

Instead of shrinking and letting the referees sort it out, Harbaugh stuck his face in there and tried to break up the fight. He didn't care that giants like Joe Staley and hard-hitters like Bernard Pollard were in the middle of the scrum. Harbaugh was going to try and protect his guys.

People shouldn't wonder why the 49ers love playing for their coach. Harbaugh is clearly someone who will go all out for his players.

That includes taking a risk of getting knocked upside the head.

The 49ers jumped out to a 24-0 lead and won 31-17.
