Giants sign 3 free agents on first day of offseason program

Updated Mar. 4, 2020 9:52 p.m. ET

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. (AP) The Giants kicked off their offseason conditioning program Monday by adding free agent running back Bobby Rainey, linebacker Kelvin Sheppard, and offensive tackle Byron Stingily to their roster.

The veteran signings were designed to add depth and competition. It follows general manager Jerry Reese's $204.25 million spending spree that procured starting talent in Dolphins defensive end Olivier Vernon, Jets defensive tackle Damon ''Snacks'' Harrison, Rams cornerback Janoris Jenkins, and Redskins linebacker Keenan Robinson on the March 9 opening of the free-agent signing period.

Monday's signings brought a mixture of starting experience and special teams expertise.
