CINCINNATI (AP) New York Giants rookie safety Landon Collins left a preseason game against the Cincinnati Bengals to have an injured knee examined.

The second-round pick from Alabama was hurt in the first quarter and came to the sideline. He later went to the locker room for X-rays that were negative.

The Giants also lost rookie safety Mykkele Thompson later in the first quarter. The fifth-round pick hurt his right Achilles tendon while covering a punt and was taken off the field on a cart.

New York's revamped defensive secondary struggled during the Bengals' opening series. Andy Dalton led the Bengals 52 yards in six plays, completing all three of his passes in a touchdown drive.
