New York Giants cornerback Aaron Ross was inactive for the season opener against the Carolina Panthers.

Ross, who plays in nickel and dime situations, has been bothered by a ligament tear in his right foot.

The Giants also inactivated rookie receivers Victor Cruz and Duke Calhoun, linebackers Phillip Dillard and Gerris Wilkinson, defensive linemen Linval Joseph and Dave Tollefson and guard Mitch Petrus.

The Panthers inactives are led by starting offensive tackle Jeff Otah, who was ruled out earlier this week. Also inactivate are receivers Armanti Edwards and David Gettis, running back Tyrell Sutton, linebacker Jordan Senn and defensive tackles Andre Neblett and Nick Hayden. Tony Pike was the Panthers' third quarterback.
