Gettleman on Newton, Olsen, Davis: Guys you 'really want to be around'

As the 2015 offseason rolls on, we've now seen that Carolina Panthers general manager Dave Gettleman has shown that he's more than willing to pay the guys who he sees as a part of the future.

With extensions locked in for quarterback Cam Newton, tight end Greg Olsen and linebacker Thomas Davis, Gettleman is looking to set up a group of leaders who can help this team take the next step. According to Max Henson of Panthers.com, Gettleman said these are the guys who you really want to be around.

"You have a plan in your head about how you'd like to go about building a team and maintaining that team," Gettleman told Panthers.com. "In this era of the salary cap, it's not easy. But you identify the guys that you really want to be around and to continue the culture."

It's no surprise that these three are the players who Gettleman plans to build around, with Luke Kuechly likely to see his name added to this list soon as well. The Panthers are expecting big things from these three in 2015, and it's probably a pretty safe bet that they end up being worth those big contract extensions.
