Gase: Backup QB Jimmy Clausen is 'perfect' for Chicago Bears offense

Few have described Jimmy Clausen as a "perfect" quarterback since being selected in the second round of the 2010 NFL draft out of Notre Dame, but new Chicago Bears offensive coordinator Adam Gase is one of them.

Last month, Gase sounded off on what Clausen brings to the table as a passer, according to Blair Sheade of the Chicago Sun-Times.

"I feel like from what we saw on tape last year—and I know it was limited, I know what we saw on tape was limited—but he’s really grown as a player," Gase told the Sun-Times. "And what we’re trying to put together right now, he was a great fit for that room. He and Jay have a great relationship. I felt like he’d be perfect for what we were trying to do offensively"

Late last season, with starting quarterback Jay Cutler struggling, Clausen earned his first start since his rookie season with the Carolina Panthers. In a 20-14 loss to the Detroit Lions, he completed 23 of 39 pass attempts for 181 yards, two touchdowns and an interception.

Heading into the 2015 season, Cutler is once again the starter. However, if anything were to happen to him, Gase has confidence in Cutler's backup to keep Chicago's offense afloat.
