Former Jacksonville Jaguars offensive lineman Eben Britton played high

Former Jacksonville Jaguars offensive lineman Eben Britton wasn’t particularly good while in the NFL, but he also wasn’t always 100 percent in the game.

Eben Britton has been out of the NFL since 2014. His career lasted from 2009 to 2014 after being selected in the second round of the 2009 NFL Draft by the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Maybe that’s a good thing.

In a recent revelation, it was revealed by Britton that he used to regularly smoke marijuana and even participated in games while high, claiming that “My performances were solid and I felt really good after.”

Britton’s interview, given to the New York Post, finally sheds some light on the dark days under general manager Gene Smith for the Jaguars. Smith left the Jags with a roster in complete disrepair and routinely blundered his way through drafting “high character” players from small schools.

Originally billed as the right tackle the Jags desperately needed, it quickly became clear that Britton wasn’t quite cut out to be successful in the NFL. He wasn’t a great player and saw himself out the door and with the Chicago Bears in 2013.

As the debate in the USA – and even the NFL – shifts on marijuana (and other recreational drugs) these types of things may become more common. So far, Britton certainly seems to be an outlier in terms of publicly stating his use. He himself estimates that over half the players in the NFL smoke pot.

Whether or not they perform while high on the football field may be a discussion for another time.
