Ex-49ers WR Torrey Smith thinks Colin Kaepernick is more skilled than other QBs signed

As other older and less-experienced quarterbacks are snatched up in free agency, Colin Kaepernick continues to wait his turn. The 29-year-old had a solid 2016 campaign, throwing 16 touchdowns to just four interceptions, but his 59 percent completion rating is still likely a cause for concern.

But for one of his Kaepernick’s former teammates, teams’ unwillingness to sign the former Pro Bowl QB is difficult to ignore. Torrey Smith, who spent the past two seasons with the 49ers before signing with the Eagles earlier this month, can’t believe Kaepernick is still on the market, especially considering the quarterbacks who have been signed.

Now, before you dismiss this as another example of one teammate looking out for another, Smith said that he had two of his worst seasons while playing with the 49ers.

Smith had just 53 catches and seven touchdowns in his two seasons in San Francisco, though Kaepernick didn’t play in 21 of the team’s 32 games. Kaepernick's injury history, inconsistent play and his stance last season regarding the national anthem might be stumbling blocks for some teams to pursue for the former dual threat.
