After releasing all-pro Evan Mathis earlier this month, the Philadelphia Eagles plan to throw offensive lineman Allen Barbre right into the fire. The Eagles have replaced Mathis with Barbre at left guard with the first team offense. Since joining the Eagles in 2013, Barbre has only taken 122 regular season snaps. Nonetheless, Barbre is confident he can step in and fill the shoes of the former Pro Bowl guard.

"I’m pretty confident," said Barbre, per the Burlington County Times. "I feel like I can play there and play well. I’m not worried I’m going to fail. I’m excited for the opportunity. "I think it makes a big difference to get comfortable (at one position) and learn there and allow us all to grow together and get some unity."

The former fourth-round draft pick, from the 2007 NFL Draft, is hoping to finally make his presence stick. With 2014 starters Mathis and Todd Herremans gone, the Eagles' interior offensive line could turn out to be the team's weakest position group in 2015. The Eagles are expecting a lot from Barbre, and if he can't step up, Sam Bradford's return to the football field could be short lived.
