Detroit's Golden Tate focused on becoming a 'better' wide receiver

Detroit Lions wide receiver Golden Tate enjoyed his finest season and first Pro Bowl appearance in 2014, yet he still has his sights set on improvement. Recently, Tate shared his goals for next season with Carlos Monarrez of the Detroit Free Press.

"Just want to be a little bit better: catch one more ball in a game or make one more block in a game or help this team win one or two more games," Tate told the Free Press. "I just want to improve any way I can."

Even though he's coming off a season in which he recorded career-high totals for receptions (99) and yardage (1,331), Tate's goals are very team-oriented. At the same time, he knows that his individual efforts go a long way toward overall success.

"I had a career-high year, but for me, that's not good enough," Tate said, per the Free Press. "I want to see how many career highs I can stack on consecutive years, never show that he's losing a step, if that's what's being said in the next few years, I'm sure. But I just want to keep improving and I think it's going to start with just winning more games, winning a few more games, going deeper in the playoffs."

Last season was Tate's first with the Lions after four with the Seattle Seahawks. The meteoric rise in a new city is a strong a sign for Tate's future, which justifies Detroit's decision to sign him to a five-year, $31 million contract last year.
