Detroit Lions sign former second-round selection, safety Taylor Mays

Safety Taylor Mays was a free agent for less than a week, as Adam Schefter first reported his being signed by the Detroit Lions on Saturday, May 20—four days after he was released by the Minnesota Vikings.
Former USC safety Taylor Mays, whom Minnesota released this week, is staying in NFC North and signing with Detroit Lions, @fadde confirmed.

Mays, who was originally a second-round pick of the San Francisco 49ers in 2010, has played the last four seasons with the Cincinnati Bengals. He was signed by the Minnesota Vikings earlier this offseason, but his stay with the rival NFC North squad was brief.
With the Lions, Mays has a better chance to find a roster spot behind starting safeties James Ihedigbo and Glover Quin. He'll probably need to prove his worth on special teams, though, since Detroit already has quality contributors in Isa Abdul-Quddus and Don Carey.
