Deshaun Watson is Destined for the Cleveland Browns

When the 2017 NFL draft rolls around next spring, expect Deshaun Watson to be selected by the Cleveland Browns.

No one in their right mind can predict how the NFL standings will finish, especially following week 1. There is however, the odd team that you can almost guarantee will end up picking first overall. That team in my eyes after week 1 of the 2016 season, is the Cleveland Browns. Finishing last has its benefits though, and its name is Deshaun Watson.

It’s time the Cleveland front office gets with the program and makes that leap for a future star and franchise quarterback. They’ve engraved their starter jersey with 25 different names since 1999, the most in the league in that period. This past offseason they made attempts and landed the former first rounder and free agent, RG3.

Newly hired head coach Hue Jackson gave nothing but praise to his offseason quarterback acquisition. This would lead most to believe that an OL or RB selection is in the near future for the organization.

A doctors prognosis all but ruined this plan following the loss to the Philadelphia Eagles. It was revealed that Griffin had suffered an injury to his non-throwing arm, keeping him out of action for at least a month.

With Josh Mccown next to fill the constantly changing quarterback position in Cleveland, a QB is still the main priority and focus. Nothing against the backup, his skill set just doesn’t fit the starter role. Instead the Browns will have to look to next years draft, where the top projected player just happens to be a highly touted quarterback.

Deshaun Watson the field general in Clemson, is currently ranked #1 across draft boards in the country. While not unanimous, the decision to pick him should be nothing short of adamant. A born leader, he was thrown to the proverbial wolves early in his personal life.

Through much hardships, he overcame numerous obstacles. One major difficulty being the cancer his single mother of 4 endured and ultimately survived, all the while supported by Deshaun.

His play on the field accurately represents his life off of it. After a slouch start to the college season, he has taken the entire blame and placed it upon himself.

Yes this could be viewed as a publicity move to further his draft value, in reality it’s the passion and maturity of the 21 year old shining through. At such a young age, this type of characteristic is rare and unseen.

Though much could and will change by spring of 2017, one thing is sure to stay the same, the Cleveland Browns descent to the bottom of the standings. More often than not, when a starting quarterback goes down, the team greatly suffers.

The game plan is completely altered, the locker room mantra is off and the chemistry rapidly declines. In this case, they were already missing enough pieces to build a decent team around, this should all but obliterate the Browns season.

In closing, the solution is simple. To win games, and just to put out a competitive team each week you need a quarterback. Not just any average quarterback either, one that can overcome the challenges and difficulties awaiting in the Dawg Pound.

The coaches and front office would make the biggest mistake passing up on the kid from Clemson. Mark my words, he WILL be a pro bowl elite quarterback in the NFL. Even if it is in the land where QBs go to die, Cleveland.
