Dan Orlovsky remains high on Detroit Lions RB Theo Riddick
Detroit Lions backup quarterback Dan Orlovsky is a big Theo Riddick fan. Last year, Orlovsky incorrectly predicted a breakout season for Riddick. This year, Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press reports that the bench-warmer is doubling down.
"Theo's too good to not put on the field," Orlovsky told the Free Press. "Theo has stuff that you can't coach, that you can't teach, that you're born from God with. He just has an ability to get open better than everyone else."
Joique Bell enters camp as Detroit's top running back, Birkett points out. Although Reggie Bush left in free agency this spring, the backup role is just as contested with 2015 second-round pick Ameer Abdullah now in the mix.
Still, Orlovsky sets the bar at 60 receptions for Riddick this season, according to the Free Press. That's nearly double the 34 catches he had last year. As a ball-carrier, Riddick isn't likely to get that much play. He has handled only 29 handoffs for less than 100 rushing yards through two NFL seasons.
