Dallas Cowboys: Projecting season stats after three weeks
Using the stats for key Dallas Cowboys players from the first three weeks of the regular season, we project what their season-ending numbers might be.
Bill Parcells used to say- “You are what your record says you are.”
In this case, the Dallas Cowboys are 2-1 and are only one Dan Bailey field goal attempt away from being 3-0 in the 2016 NFL season.
For the sake of projections, let’s assume that after playing three games this year, the Cowboys players are what their stats say they are as well.
Without looking at the numbers, I’m sure you can envision that players like slot receiver Cole Beasley are headed for career-years. And someone like Pro Bowl wide out Dez Bryant hasn’t been the fire starter that we expected him to be to this point.
If the players were to stay at the same pace as their current trajectory (huge if), here are the stat lines for the key Dallas Cowboys players.
Yes, I do realize that quarterback Tony Romo is due to return so it is highly unlikely that rookie back-up Dak Prescott plays in all 16 games. I also realize that someone could get hot or cool off as early as this Sunday against the San Francisco 49ers.
In fact, I think the only completely accurate projection would be Jason Witten for catches and yards- who is the model of consistency at the tight end position.
This is still fun to look at regardless.
Quarterback Dak Prescott:
352-528 4,090 yards 5 touchdowns 0 interceptions
37 carries 288 yards 11 touchdowns
Running back Ezekiel Elliott:
378 carries 1,461 yards 11 touchdowns
27 catches 133 yards 0 touchdowns
Running back Alfred Morris:
90 carries 325 yards 11 touchdowns
5 catches 11 yards 0 touchdowns
Running back Lance Dunbar:
21 carries 37 yards 5 touchdowns
16 catches 224 yards 0 touchdowns
Wide receiver Dez Bryant:
59 catches 800 yards 5 touchdowns
Wide receiver Terrance Williams:
37 catches 651 yards 0 touchdowns
Wide receiver Cole Beasley:
107 catches 1136 yards 0 touchdowns
Tight end Jason Witten:
75 catches 757 yards 0 touchdowns
Tight end Geoff Swaim:
