Cowboys name Brandon Carr Walter Payton award nominee
The Dallas Cowboys have named cornerback Brandon Carr their nominee for the Walter Payton Man of the Year award in 2015. This award recognizes an athlete's contributions both on and off the field, and it is the second year in a row that Carr has been named the Cowboys' nominee.
The award is named after the late Hall of Fame Chicago Bears running back Walter Payton. All 32 teams have one nominee each for the award, and the winner will be announced during the NFL Honors awards show on February 6, 2016.
"It's ultimately part of your legacy, combining both on and off the field,'' Carr said to reporters, per The Dallas News. "Truly off the field is where you really make your mark, I believe, changing lives, leaving a lasting impression on people.
"They see you with a helmet on and they just think of you as an athlete or a hard-bodied individual, but we all have passions. We all have things we would like to inspire others with. Foundations would be one.
"It kind of deals with the connotation that we're just jocks. We also care about our communities and care about making an impact on them in a positive way.''
Carr is not only making a big impact in the community, in 2015 he is also enjoying a bounce-back season with the Cowboys after being on the roster bubble this past offseason.
