Colts hope to have new deal with Luck before training camp

Published Apr. 30, 2016 6:33 p.m. ET

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) Indianapolis Colts owner Jim Irsay says negotiations on Andrew Luck's contract extension have gotten serious and hopes that a deal can be worked out before training camp opens.

Irsay made the comments during the final day of the NFL draft.

The Colts have made it clear how much they value their franchise quarterback. Irsay has repeatedly said he plans to make Luck the highest-paid quarterback in league history, using terms such as ''shocking numbers'' to describe how much the deal could be for.

Luck and his agent, Will Wilson, have remained relatively quiet about contract talks.

Luck will play out the fifth and final year of his rookie deal in 2016.
