Colts' Clark on IR, Collie out indefinitely

Published Oct. 21, 2010 1:00 a.m. ET

Indianapolis Colts Pro Bowl tight end Dallas Clark has been placed on the injured reserve and slot receiver Austin Collie had thumb surgery.

The Colts announced the news Friday. Clark says he met with three surgeons and decided surgery is necessary. He says he plans to return next season.

Clark's absence is a big loss for the Colts as he ranks third on the team with 37 catches for 347 yards this season after catching 100 passes for 1,106 yards and 10 touchdowns last season.

Collie, who has quickly become one of the NFL’s top slot receivers, ranks second in the NFL in receptions, fifth in yards and tied for second in touchdown receptions.

With Collie out, fourth-year wide receiver Anthony Gonzalez figures to handle the slot role. Gonzalez, however, suffered a high ankle sprain during the team’s opening game against the Houston Texans and has yet to play since then. Third-year tight end Jacob Tamme will fill Clark's role. Tamme, who does not have a catch yet this season, only has six for his career.

Luckily for the the Colts they are on their bye this week and return to action Nov. 1 to host Houston.
