Chiefs WR Avant becoming a trusted target again under Reid
No one in Kansas City has known Andy Reid for longer than Jason Avant.
Avant has called him his head coach for eight seasons in Philadelphia. Now together again with the Chiefs, the receiver is carving out a niche for himself as a target for another Reid-tutored quarterback.
“Alex is always trying to get the ball out of his hands quicker, so you have to be on his time," Avant told Arrowhead Addict. "That’s one of the biggest things, the timing is a lot different. Every quarterback is different, but Alex is one of those guys that wants it out at a certain time."
Avant got on Smith's time in no time at all last season, though. After his release from the Carolina Panthers, he quickly caught 13 balls for 152 yards in Kansas City. Stretch that five-game output out over a 16-game span and he'd be a 500-yard receiver.
Transitioning to a new team is easier when you know the man in charge. But Avant wants Reid to know he's still working hard.
"It’s seamless because I know what he (Reid) expects," Avant said. "But Coach, I’m still learning.”
