Chiefs vs. Chargers: Injury reports

Published Jun. 30, 2017 6:28 p.m. ET

The Kansas City Chiefs and San Diego Chargers released their first injury reports on Wednesday, and there isn’t much going on.

We already know the story with the Chiefs. Running back Jamaal Charles and outside linebacker Tamba Hali are both listed as limited participants in practice. Charles is going to likely miss the season opener as he continues to recover from knee surgery, with head coach Andy Reid calling it a stretch to see him on Sunday.

As for Hali, he should be playing on a rotational basis, likely giving some snaps to Dezman Moses, Frank Zombo and perhaps Dadi Nicolas (unleash this man!). Hali will be very important in this game when he’s on the field, unless Dee Ford can prove he belongs.

As for the San Diego Chargers, they have some key pieces on the sideline as well. For starters, defensive end Damion Square is out due to a four-game suspension. Then there is the case of Joey Bosa, another defensive end who won’t be suiting up. After a lengthy holdout, Bosa came back last week but experienced tightness and will not be able to go come Sunday.

Finally, wide receiver Stevie Johnson is out for the season with a torn meniscus. Johnson was slated to be the slot receiver with Keenan Allen and Travis Benjamin on the outside. Finally, nose tackle Sean Lissimore and running back Branden Oliver won’t be in action, having been placed on injured reserve.
