Chargers host an emotional open practice at Qualcomm Stadium

Malcolm Floyd took the field for a night scrimmage at Qualcomm Stadium on Saturday night -- to the cheers and chants of 17,000 Chargers fans.

It got a little emotional for the veteran receiver who has spent his whole career in San Diego.

“They chanted my name, and I was like, ‘Don’t do that, it’s sad,’ ” Floyd told U-T San Diego. “I’m happy to know the fans all have our back, despite what was going on."

Chargers officials will pitch their Los Angeles relocation plans in Chicago tomorrow. Their Carson-area stadium is all but cleared. It's a stressful time to root for the Bolts.

Tackle Joe Barksdale went from one team courting Los Angeles -- the Rams -- to another in San Diego. Rumors like that can stress a player and his family out; Barksdale tries to keep a level head.

“The way I see it,” Barksdale said of potential franchise relocation, “talk is talk, and you really shouldn’t react until some facts come out."

Until then, a city and its fan base are left in football limbo. And on Saturday, they took a page out of Eric Weddle's book -- they loved the franchise, in spite of those who would move it.

“When I came out, just the cheers and the chants, it was pretty emotional,” the star safety said. "So I tried to give back to the fans that supported me.”
