Second-year cornerback Marcus Cromartie has been one of the biggest surprises of the San Francisco 49ers offseason. With the cornerback situation still undecided, Cromartie has stepped up and gone from practice squad to getting first-team reps.

"Getting reps is going to make you a better player, especially when you’re with the 1s," Cromartie said, via 49ers.com. "It’s going to have you play at a higher tempo and have you more precise with your communication.

"It definitely gets you prepared for game situations."

Cromartie understands training camp is a whole different animal than OTAs and minicamp. Once the pads go on, the intensity level will heighten and he will have to earn his spot on the first-team. When asked what his goals will be at training camp, he gave a very direct answer.

"It’s to not get complacent. When you get to training camp, it’s a whole new deal."

Cromartie wants to prove to the coaching staff that he can be relied upon at all times. Consistency has been his main focus this offseason.

"Anybody can be good for one day, or for one game," Cromartie said. "It takes a great player to be consistent through the games and through practice, and that’s what I’m focused on."
