Cardinals place OT Gandy on injured reserve

Published Dec. 23, 2009 11:53 p.m. ET

The Arizona Cardinals have placed starting left tackle Mike Gandy on injured reserve after he underwent surgery to repair a sports hernia.

The move ends the season for Gandy, who had started 31 consecutive games, counting last season's playoffs, before the injury kept him out of the Dec. 2 victory over Minnesota. He tried to come back the following week at San Francisco, but came out of the game in the third quarter.

Gandy, who becomes an unrestricted free agent after this season, underwent the surgery on Friday.

He has been replaced in the lineup by Jeremy Bridges, who signed with Arizona on Sept. 8.

The team elevated linebacker Pago Togafau from the practice squad to take Gandy's roster spot.
