Calvin Johnson opens up a new chapter in Lions' record book

Published Nov. 22, 2015 2:42 p.m. ET

Detroit Lions wide receiver Calvin Johnson set a new franchise milestone when he recorded his 700th career reception against the Oakland Raiders on Sunday. He is the first player in Lions history to catch 700 passes, according to Kyle Meinke of MLive.com.

Johnson extends his franchise lead with each reception. Earlier this year he passed Herman Moore, who caught 670 passes for the Lion from 1991 to 2001.

Now that Johnson owns all of the team's major receiving records, the focus shifts to his climbing of the league-wide leader boards. He moved into the top 45 receiving leaders of all time, in terms of catches, on Sunday. There's still a long way to go for the 30-year-old All-Pro, who's currently in his ninth NFL season.
