The Kansas City Chiefs earned a wild overtime win over the Denver Broncos with Cairo Santos banking home the game-winning 34-yard field goal.

For those expecting pure elation and excitement on Sunday Night Football, the matchup between the Kansas City Chiefs and Denver Broncos was not for you. The game started as a punt fest and then broke open despite the quarterbacks, Alex Smith and Trevor Siemian, somehow continuing to not push the ball downfield—though the latter did late in the game.

After Denver pulled ahead, though, the Chiefs needed a last-second drive in regulation. They were able to get it on a reviewed Tyreek Hill touchdown catch and subsequent two-point conversion. That then forced overtime at Mile High and things just continued to get wild.

The Broncos got the ball first and drove for a field goal. Thus, KC got the ball back and kicked a field goal of their own. Siemian and company tried to drive into field-goal range, but came up short. That led to Brandon McManus kicking a 62-yard field goal, which he couldn’t put on target. With just a minute left, Smith and the Chiefs got the ball back.

Somehow, the game-manager extraordinaire drove down the field and got into solid field-goal range. That set up Cairo Santos for a 34-yard attempt. The kick right off his foot was hanging left and then the worst happened—it hit the upright. Somehow, though, the deflection was enough off of the inside of the upright that it went inside the opposite upright for the game-winning three points:

This game was complete insanity and one of the best worst games that you’ll ever see.

Now coming out of this, the Chiefs are in the lead in the AFC Wild Card race and could very well make a move as they’re just one back of the Oakland Raiders. The Denver Broncos certainly aren’t down and out now, but their job here on out just got much harder.
