'Butt fumble' guard headed to Dallas

Brandon Moore was only going to come back for an 11th NFL season if the deal was right. That's exactly what happened, and now Moore will soon be a member of the Dallas Cowboys.

A source told FOX Sports on Tuesday night that the former New York Jets guard — immortalized as the guy whose butt caused Mark Sanchez's infamous "butt fumble" last season — has agreed to terms on a one-year deal with the Cowboys. The source didn't specify terms but said the contract is for more than the veteran minimum.

The 33-year-old Moore, who has been a Jet for his entire career to this point, waited out a slow free-agent period for veteran guards this spring and declined to sign cut-rate deals. He visited the Miami Dolphins and spoke to several other teams, one of which was the Cowboys.

But Moore, who attended the NFL's business management and entrepreneurial program at Harvard in 2010, decided he would move on to life after football if he was only offered minimum contracts.

Moore found a team willing to give him more than the minimum ($940,000 for 10-year veterans), and one that provides him a chance to start right away. Moore's arrival might mean the end of guard Nate Livings' days in Dallas. Livings is in the second year of a five-year contract worth $18.7 million, but he has undergone two knee surgeries in six months.

Right guard Mackenzy Bernadeau is working his way back from a hamstring injury, and center Travis Frederick is a rookie. Clearly, the Cowboys felt they needed some veteran help and found some in Moore.

Despite the perception of the Jets' 2011 offense being brutal, Moore played well for much of last season. And speaking of misperceptions, his signing with the Cowboys will only result in more references to Sanchez's "butt fumble" — although Moore did little to nothing wrong on the play, and actually got a 1-yard push on Vince Wilfork.

NBC color commentator Cris Collinsworth's said Wilfork "forklifted" Moore, into whose derriere Sanchez crashed. (Collinsworth later said he got carried away, and that Moore was correct to fire back at him.)
