Buccaneers practice squad WR Evan Spencer retires
TAMPA, Fla. (AP) Tampa Bay Buccaneers practice squad receiver Evan Spencer is retiring at age 23.
The team announced the decision Friday, one day after the first-year pro was re-signed to the practice squad. Spencer made the initial 53-man roster coming out of preseason, but was waived this week when the Bucs signed veteran receiver Cecil Shorts III.
Spencer is the son of Tampa Bay running backs coach Tim Spencer. He spent most of last season on the practice squad before making his NFL debut in the final week against Carolina.
Spencer, who did not catch a regular-season pass during his brief career, entered the league in 2015 as a sixth-round draft pick of the Washington Redskins.
