The Cleveland Browns announced they have have placed linebacker Scott Solomon on injured reserve and claimed defensive back Don Jones via waivers from the New Orleans Saints.

After sustaining an ankle injury in the season opener in New York, Solomon was expected to only miss four-to-six weeks, but he will now have to sit out the remainder of the season because of a knee injury that he suffered in his return on Sunday’s overtime victory over the Baltimore Ravens. Nicknamed “Bloodbath” by his teammates, the linebacker won’t even make it to Halloween this season.

Originally drafted by the Tennessee Titans, the fourth-year linebacker was expected to be a main contributor to Browns’ defense in 2015, but he recorded just one tackle in two games. In the preseason, Cleveland’s coaches raved about Solomon’s ability to set the edge in the running game, which remains among the biggest weaknesses in the Browns defense.

With a litany of injuries to the defensive backfield, Jones, who was claimed from New Orleans, will give Cleveland some much-needed depth. The 5-foot-11, 195-pound defensive back was a seventh-round pick by the Miami Dolphins in 2013. He has appeared in five games in 2015 for the Saints and accumulated one tackle on special teams. In his third season out of Arkansas State, Jones has appeared in 34 games as a reserve and has tallied 23 career tackles, all on special team units.
