Browns' Manziel reportedly puts time in with Jon Gruden

Browns quarterback Johnny Manziel reportedly took a trip to Tampa this week, but it's safe to say it wasn't nearly as eventful as his excursions last summer.

Manziel met up with former coach and current Monday Night Football commentator Jon Gruden to get some extra work in before training camp, according to Walter Football. The two worked on Manziel's throwing mechanics while also getting in some film study.

Manziel, who by all accounts is putting in the time to become an NFL quarterback this offseason after a stint in rehab, has drawn praise from Gruden before. Gruden said that Manziel has "a lot of magic in him" prior to last year's draft, and even urged the Raiders to select Manziel, according to Ian Rapoport from NFL Network. The Raiders ended up taking Derek Carr in the second round, a move that seems to have paid off so far.

Manziel will arrive at training camp next Wednesday as Josh McCown's likely backup, but at least he is on the right track to showing if he can be the Browns' quarterback of the future. That's a far cry from last summer, when Manziel was seen partying in Las Vegas and swimming in a pool with an inflatable swan.
