Browns' Josh McCown has broken collarbone
Browns quarterback Josh McCown has a fractured left collarbone, the team told reporters on Friday.
McCown was injured during Sunday’s loss to the Ravens, playing in relief of injured Robert Griffin III. Rookie Cody Kessler is slated to make his first NFL start on Sunday against the Dolphins.
McCown is week-to-week, according to Cleveland.com, and likely to miss multiple games. He broke his right collarbone (on his throwing side) last season, and spent the final five weeks of the year on injured reserve. The Browns and head coach Hue Jackson were initially non-specific in describing the injury, but incorrectly called McCown’s collarbone “displaced” to reporters, which led the team to confirm it was actually broken.
The Browns brought in veteran Charlie Whitehurst for added quarterback depth this week. Griffin is out 10–12 weeks, and possibly the season, with a shoulder injury.
