Breaking down Bill Belichick's non-football comments from yesterday

Yesterday, New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick had a few noteworthy sound bites that did not relate at all to football.

This week marks the beginning of grandpahood for Belichick, and this is what he had to say about it at the beginning of his Tuesday presser:

We have a roster addition to announce…

This is a relatively familiar statement to start off a press conference. Then comes the twist.

It’s a little different than the usual one.

OK, we’re listening, Bill.

Emphasis would be on the little.

Dion Lewis is going to be added to the active roster?

We can add newborn Blakely Rose to the depth chart.

Sounds like Dion Lewis may not be the only upcoming running back injection.

A classic Bill Belichick quote if there ever was one. Here, Bill displays an apt awareness of internet meme language while also dishing a shout out to the mother of his granddaughter.

Congratulations on the news, Bill. Now onto the next classic Bill quote from yesterday…

As you probably noticed, I’m done with the tablets. I just can’t take it anymore.

Of course, Bill is referring to the Microsoft Surface Pro tablet that he pulverized on the sideline in Week 4 against the Buffalo Bills.

Talk about a marketing nightmare. In response to the Twitterstorm following Bill’s disendorsement of their product, Microsoft released the following statement:

We respect Coach Belichick’s decision, but stand behind the reliability of Surface. We continue to receive positive feedback on having Surface devices on the sidelines from coaches, players and team personnel across the league. In the instances where sideline issues are reported in NFL games, we work closely with the NFL to quickly address and resolve.

Yeah, it’s never good when the best coach (and grandpa) in the league trashes your product on national television and then says something brutally honest such as “I just can’t take it anymore”. That’s a tough draw for the guys over at Microsoft.
