Bills QB EJ Manuel named starter for third preseason game vs. Steelers
Another preseason game, another starter at quarterback for the Buffalo Bills.
On Thursday, head coach Rex Ryan named EJ Manuel the starter for the team's third preseason game on Saturday against the Pittsburgh Steelers. Manuel follows Matt Cassel and Tyrod Taylor as the third starting quarterback for the Bills this preseason.
"I thought he earned his shot," Ryan said in his press conference, referencing Manuel's performance in the previous two preseason games.
In the preseason thus far, Manuel has completed 13-of-22 passes for 188 yards and two touchdowns with no turnovers. Giving Manuel the start in the team's third preseason game -- arguably the most important of the four -- shows Ryan's confidence in the third-year quarterback. Or it could also mean that Ryan has no idea who to start for the regular season.
Ryan did say that all three quarterbacks will see time with the first-team offense on Saturday, making Manuel's start less significant.
Still, it's worth recognizing, given Ryan's apparent indecision at quarterback since joining the Bills.
