Bears RT Long's goal: 'Keep Jay handsome and his hair perfect'

Chicago Bears right tackle Kyle Long is dedicated to the protection of his quarterback. In Week 5, his pass-blocking allowed Jay Cutler to construct a fourth-quarter comeback, as the Bears beat the Kansas City Chiefs, 18-17, on the road.

When asked if his preparation was any different for an All-Pro pass-rusher in Chiefs outside linebacker Justin Houston, Long made it clear that his objective never changes.

"Not really," Long said, via the Bears' official website. "I mean you show up and you got to block him. That's your job. You're trying to keep Jay handsome and his hair perfect, so whatever that is, whatever you got to do -- sometimes it's ugly. You got to kick, claw, scratch to get the job done."

Long is a gritty blocker and also Chicago's most talented offensive lineman at only 26 years of age. This is his first season at tackle after back-to-back Pro Bowl campaigns at right guard. So far, Long is taking to his new position well.

The Bears are affording Cutler just enough room to operate. He has been sacked seven times this season, but he's completing 60 percent of his passes and has thrown twice as many touchdowns (six) as interceptions (three).
