Backup plan: Flynn, Tolzien give Packers QB depth
GREEN BAY, Wis. (AP) The Green Bay Packers have a solid backup plan at quarterback a year after starter Aaron Rodgers missed time with a collarbone injury.
Matt Flynn and Scott Tolzien figure to see most of the snaps on Saturday when the Packers play their preseason opener in Tennessee against the Titans.
Both were added to the roster after 2013 training camp, with former Packers draft pick Flynn returning to Green Bay as a free agent after Rodgers got hurt in November.
Rodgers appears as sharp as ever this summer. But coaches think a full offseason in the system for Flynn and Tolzien should also help the offense, especially with getting younger players up to speed.
Flynn is ahead of Tolzien on the first depth chart, though nothing appears set.
