Andrew Luck: Reggie Wayne is not a traitor

Seeing Reggie Wayne in a New England Patriots uniform is going to be downright painful for many Indianapolis Colts fans. But does that mean the 36-year-old veteran turned his back on the place he called home for the last 14 years?

Andrew Luck doesn’t think so.

On Tuesday, Luck told “The Rich Eisen Show” that he would never consider Wayne a traitor for signing with Indy’s biggest rival.

“There’s a lot of things said and written about a lot of people,” Luck said, per Christopher Price of WEEI.com. “Reggie will always be one of the great Colts in my mind and a great, great teammate. You can’t control what people write. It doesn’t really matter what’s fair and not fair necessarily as a player. But I know Reg is no traitor to me at all.”

One thing that has rubbed Colts fans the wrong way is how Wayne went back on what he said last year about being a Colt for life.

“What I know I’m not going to do is go somewhere else and play for one year,” he said back in December. “Nobody else. I don’t have the time to be dipping and dabbing, one year here, maybe one year somewhere else. Put a stamp on it. Stamp it. Colt for life.”

Of course, Wayne was optimistic at the time that the Colts would be the team signing him to a one-year deal during the offseason. Since they did not, he decided to sign with a team that gives him a legitimate chance at winning another Super Bowl.
