San Francisco 49ers coach Jim Tomsula was not interested in addressing his job status immediately following his team's 19-16 overtime win against St. Louis in Sunday's regular-season finale.

"I'm not going to make this about Jim or Jim's job status today," Tomsula said after the 49ers capped a 5-11 season - the franchise's worst record since 2007.

An hour after Tomsula met with the media, the 49ers announced he had been relieved of his duties.

Asked if he thought he earned the chance come back next season, Tomsula responded: "You're a coach. You always think that."

The 49ers have now fired five coaches after one season. Tomsula, who was the team's defensive line coach when he was named to succeed Jim Harbaugh following the 2014 season, did receive an endorsement from linebacker NaVorro Bowman after the game.

"I've been my whole career with Jimmy and I love Jim," Bowman said. "We won today and let's give him praise for that and not talk rumors."
