The San Francisco 49ers selected cornerback Marcus Cooper out of Rutgers with the last of their three seventh-round picks in the NFL draft Saturday, completing the team's haul of seven players taken on the draft's final day.
Cooper, the No. 252 overall selection, could compete for a reserve role in a San Francisco secondary that is looking to upgrade at the cornerback position. Cooper finished with 42 tackles and one interception in 13 games for Rutgers last season.
He is one of two defensive backs among San Francisco's 11 total picks, joining LSU safety Eric Reid, selected by the 49ers with the No. 18 overall pick in the first round.
