49ers GM Trent Baalke 'feels good' about cornerback depth
When discussing the main areas of needs for the 49ers, many will point to cornerback as a need they must fill early in the draft.
Don't count 49ers GM Trent Baalke as one of those people. The 49ers went out and signed Shareece Wright this offseason from the Chargers. He will be added to the mix with Tramaine Brock, Dontae Johnson, and Chris Cook.
Baalke told Bay Area football scribes, "(I) feel very good about Shareece as a player".
Baalke then went on to say how he feels Wright will be a good mix with the other players on the roster. "We feel good about the depth," Baalke said. "We’ll see how this draft plays out whether we have the ability to pick a player or more at that position or not."
Baalke has always been big about selecting talent over need on draft day. You can expect that trent to continue this year as Baalke told reporters:
"We feel good with where the roster is at from a positional standpoint," he said. "I felt like we addressed some needs in free agency that would allow us to go into the draft with the ability to draft value over need. That doesn’t mean we don’t have any holes that we would like to fil, or that we don’t want to upgrade at certain positions. What it does mean is that we’re very comfortable with where we’re at, at this stage of the game."
Look for the 49ers to take the best players available in the early rounds and fill their needs in the later rounds of the draft.
