NBA Rumors: Cavs Not Sold On Trading Iman Shumpert Just Yet

NBA Rumors: The Cleveland Cavaliers aren’t exactly sold on trading Iman Sumpert just yet, though it could happen at some point this season
The Cleveland Cavaliers could really use some depth behind Kyrie Irving at the point guard position, and have some options to make a move.
Cleveland has a few trade exceptions and could even move a wing player or two to earn some serious depth in the backcourt. Although, from all indications, it doesn’t appear the Cavs are ready to part ways with some of their pieces – including Iman Shumpert.
According to Joe Varden of the Joe Varden of the Cleveland Plain Dealer, the Cavs aren’t necessarily interested in moving Shumpert at this time. Though, they’re not exactly hanging up the phone if teams are calling.

A few teams such as the Minnesota Timberwolves have inquired about Iman Shumpert, who has three years and $30 million left on his contract at age 26. The Cavs are answering the phone… But they are not actively looking to deal him, a team source told cleveland.com….
Keep in mind, Cleveland also has a trade exception worth about $11 million, the expiring contract of Mo Williams ($2.2 million) and Jordan McRae to deal. So if it is Rubio they want, they don’t have to trade Shumpert to get him.
The Cavs are currently getting by at point guard with rookie Kay Felder and Jordan McRae behind Kyrie. Shumpert has also been used as a “point guard” as necessity. Though, this is clearly something that will need to be addressed as some point this season – and probably sooner rather than later.
Question is, do the Cavs want to make a move through the trade market, or would they’d rather wait for a guy like Mario Chalmers to get healthy enough to be signed to the roster.
Problem is, there’s really no timeline for Chalmers being ready to play again. And time is not something that the Cavs have at this point. The regular season is underway and not having substantial depth is not ideal for a team that needs to manage minutes properly right now.
