James initially took to social media on Thursday after reports of the death of 5-month-old Aavielle Wakefield, who was shot in the chest while riding in a car in Cleveland, per the Cleveland Plain Dealer. The paper noted it was the third fatal shooting involving a child in the city in weeks. The Cavaliers star said he was at home with his three kids Thursday when he heard the news.

Around the time of those posts, President Obama was delivering a speech in response to the events that same day at Umpqua Community College in Roseburg, Ore., in which 10 people including a gunman were killed in a mass shooting on the campus.

Per the Plain Dealer:

The Associated Press contributed to this report.
