Lakers co-owner Jeanie Buss receives award for business leadership
Things haven't gone so great on the court for the Los Angeles Lakers lately. But basketball business is booming, and co-owner and team president Jeanie Buss is a big reason why the Lakers have been so successful off the floor. And this week, she was recognized for her business leadership with the Vanguard Award, presented by the T.J. Martell Foundation.
Lakers Nation was on the scene to capture video of the award presentation, which was handled by former Lakers dancer Paula Abdul, fittingly enough. And the site had a minute to chat with Buss, as she hoisted the credit for the achievement on the Lakers:
"I'm humbled by this. I think this is really about the Lakers. And tonight's theme for the T.J. Martell Foundation is 'Spirit of Excellence,' and I think that the Lakers embody excellence. And that's just kind of what my family wants to continue; to operate the Lakers in a way that we're devoted to excellence."
The T.J. Martell Foundation annually honors visionaries in entertainment, the arts and medicine with its Spirit of Excellence Awards, including the Vanguard Award. More broadly, the foundation supports research on leukemia, AIDS and other cancers.
